Garden Week at Bartram Trail Library 6/6 - 6/11

The Garden Club of Switzerland will be at the Bartram Trail Library for National Garden Club's Garden Week to show you how to do just that. Stop by our table outside the library on Wednesday and Thursday, June 8 and 9 between 11AM and 3PM, to see what ideas we have to enhance your horticultural happiness.  Inside the library from June 6-11, we're displaying some of our "best book picks" available through the library system to increase you and your child's gardening IQ this summer.

Check out our Free Gardening Resources at the Library article for a sampling of recommended references.  We'll have a complete list of books, including fiction and fun projects for adults and children the week before the event.

April at Alpine Groves

Alpine Groves Park will be a busy place this month.  Our club meeting will be right next to the Freedom Butterfly Garden (weather permitting) to spruce it up for the big Bartram Bash.  The Bartram Bash at Alpine Groves Park is on April 23 from 9AM-4PM.  It is free and open to the public.  That day we'll also be celebrating Earth Day (which is actually the day before, but EVERY DAY should be a celebration of our one-and-only Earth).

Blessing of the Waters by Dianne Battle, Treasurer

I was honored to participate in a First Nation ceremony known as a "River Blessing" to express gratitude for the waters gracing our region.  The ceremony, led by Master Naturalist, Ayolane Halusky would bless water  from three different sources:  spring water from Cannon Springs, brackish water from the Matanzas, and the mixed waters of the St. Johns.

I wrote an article for the March issue of The Creekline describing what took place that morning, January 30, in front of the historic Bennett house in Alpine Groves Park.

Click the Play button below for a video slideshow of the ceremony.

Come to Alpine Groves Park on April 23 for the Bartram Bash, a celebration of naturalist, William Bartram's birthday and meet our garden club, the Friends of Alpine Groves, The St. Johns Riverkeeper, and other educational or environmentally-minded local groups.
